Mars moves from Virgo into Libra at 08:46 UTC on 21 December 2028, and this stay is longer than usual. Mars turns retrograde on 14 February 2029, and that backward motion carries it out of Libra and back into Virgo on 7 April 2029 at 13:09 UTC, after 107 days. The retrograde continues until 5 May 2029. Libra is a cardinal air sign ruled by Venus.
Astrologers count Libra as the sign of Mars's detriment, because a planet of assertion sits in a sign of balance, partnership and fairness. The tradition reads this placement as drive channeled through relationships, negotiation and questions of who gives what. During the retrograde, the emphasis is taken to shift toward reviewing agreements rather than forcing new ones. A modest suggestion: when a disagreement returns, listen for what is unfinished before pushing for a decision.
