Sagittarius gives way to Capricorn at 20:50 UTC on 21 December 2026, the moment of the December solstice. North of the equator it is the shortest day of the year, south of it the longest. The Sun stays in Capricorn for 29 days and moves on to Aquarius on 20 January 2027 at 07:30 UTC. Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign ruled by Saturn.
The tradition treats Capricorn as the sign of ambition, responsibility, time and patient building, with Saturn lending it a respect for structure and limits. Astrologers read the Sun's month here as a season for setting long-range goals and taking stock of commitments. A modest practice for these weeks is to write down one aim for the coming year alongside the first concrete step toward it, and leave the rest of the plan open.
